Originals By Skeeter
Peter and Skeeter De Mattia
Peter and I have lived in New Jersey all our lives, moving to the northern, mountains and woods area in the late 1960's .
We, Peter and Skeeter De Mattia, formed our business, Originals By Skeeter, in 1991. We introduced our new designs in kaleidoscopes with a flat book- like kaleidoscope that had never been done before. From there, we went to design over fifty different styles of kaleidoscopes in glass and metal. With the success of our glass kaleidoscopes, we moved to more art-like kaleidoscopes from found metal objects that incorporate motorcycle, automobile, medical, tool and machine parts. These parts are used in our large kaleidoscopes weighting up to 150 pounds and smaller versions that weigh less than a pound. The small ones are called " Desktops" because they can be nicely displayed on a desk.
Peter is much more mechanical and industrial oriented. He does the work that is involved in making our scopes: welding, brazing, cutting, cleaning and designing. I fell naturally into working in stained glass, by taking a night course, which afforded me the opportunity to really express my talents in intricate glass cutting on band and ring saw and decorative soldering.
Now sixteen years later we still enjoy inventing new interesting designs.
